I Told My Brother I Did the Chores

So last week, my mom left us a list of chores to do before she went out of town for work. She told us it was important because everything needs cleaning and sorting after spring break. Now, my big brother Alex is usually lazy about housework unless there's candy involved, so he kinda dragged his feet. I guess I got tired of waiting on him, but instead of just doing the chores myself, I didn't want to do all that extra work!, I told him I did everything while he was napping one afternoon. Now I feel guilty because we have this big family meeting today where Mom wants us to report back. And if Alex finds out I lied about his chores, it'll make both of us look bad and get on her nerves. I really wish I could just tell the truth now, but there's no easy way to do that without making things worse for me or getting him in trouble too. I keep hoping she won't notice something’s off and we’ll all escape unscathed this time.
