Told Mom I Cleaned My Room When I Didn't

Okay, so maybe this wasn't the best thing to do, but hey, it worked for a while. Yesterday morning, my mom asked me if I had cleaned my room yet. I hadn’t even touched it since last week when we were supposed to get rid of all that old junk, you know? But instead of admitting I was still lazy and needed more time, I blurted out 'Yeah, totally done!' She seemed satisfied with the lie and didn't press further. Later on, my sister caught me playing video games in there without even a hint of tidiness around me. She went straight to mom like she knew something fishy was going on, but fortunately for me, it was too late by then, mom had already been fooled once. Now I’m stuck with this weight on my conscience because eventually the truth will come out. But honestly? If being a liar temporarily buys me some peace from nagging and allows me to procrastinate, who cares if I’ll feel guilty later?
