When I Became an Enabler of My Teen's Video Game Habit

So here's the thing: my 16-year-old son has always been a gamer. From the moment he got his first console, it's been pretty much all video games and schoolwork for him. We've tried limiting screen time but nothing sticks. Last week I was in Best Buy and he called me saying that his favorite game just released an expansion pack, but he didn't have the money to buy it. Now, I know how expensive these things are, but let's face it, video games are a big part of my kid's life. So what did I do? I bought him the expansion pack and sent it straight to his house with next-day delivery. Yes, you heard that right, I splurged on this because he had been talking about it nonstop for weeks and honestly? He’s happier than ever since we let him dive back into gaming without restrictions. Now, here's my question: Am I the asshole for enabling what might be considered a hobby gone too far? Or is there something redeeming in allowing your child to pursue what brings them joy?
