new hobby is so lonely

i started painting about two weeks ago and i thought it would be fun to meet people who also like art. so i joined this big local art club, but everyone there seems to already know each other from years back and they talk in these really specific artist terms that i barely understand yet. its hard trying to fit in when im just starting out with no real background or connections to the scene here. today at a meetup we were supposed to critique each others work and it was so awkward, everyone seemed busy talking about their own stuff like they werent even listening. i tried to ask them questions but they barely paid attention and i could see how silly my paintings looked compared to all of theirs. im starting to think maybe its better if i just keep this new hobby a secret until i get more confident with it. its hard being the newbie who feels lost in every way.
