The Great Toy Hoarder Saga

So I've been a stay-at-home parent for about four years now, and things have generally been smooth sailing. But there's one thing that has been bugging me: the toys. We never got rid of any of them after my kids outgrew them or lost interest in them. Now our house looks like Toys 'R' Us threw up on it. It was starting to drive me insane, but I never said anything because I didn't want to hurt anyone's feelings. Then one day, I had enough. I got so sick of the piles of toys everywhere that I decided to take action without telling anyone. I spent a whole Saturday sorting through everything, getting rid of what seemed like half the toys in our house. I thought it was going to be an easy cleanup - I could just donate most of them and keep the really good stuff. But oh boy, was I wrong. By Sunday afternoon, my kids had come home from school and noticed their favorite toy wasn't there anymore. It turned out that this one particular stuffed animal I thought was old and forgotten had been a security blanket for both of them since they were babies. They were heartbroken. And let's not forget about the backlash from my partner who felt like it was my job to ask before cleaning house. I tried explaining how overwhelmed I'd been, but they just didn't get it. I feel bad about making them sad, but honestly, I can breathe easier now that our living room isn't filled with toy chaos. I'll probably go through the toys again in a few months because let's be real, more will pile up. For now, I've learned my lesson: ask before cleaning out the kid stuff.
