The Lunch Sack Lie

So, I was at work the other day and I had this big plan to impress my coworkers with some homemade cookies. Thought it would be a nice way to break the ice after our team meeting where everyone said they were stressed out about deadlines. I woke up early that morning, made these amazing chocolate chip cookies, packed them in a cute little lunch bag with a handwritten note saying 'Baked With Love.' Everything was perfect until I got to work and realized that my colleague, Alex, had left the communal kitchen with their lunch earlier than me. There were only a few spots left on the fridge where we keep our lunches. I looked around and saw a spot next to mine and thought, 'Well, this isn't too bad.' But as I was about to place it there, another colleague walked by and glanced at my lunch bag with interest. And suddenly, that space felt like a no-go area for anything homemade. So, what did I do? Yeah, you guessed it. I told everyone that my lunch had been pre-packaged from the store, something boring but safe, just to avoid any unwanted attention on me and my baking skills. Not proud of this one bit. As the day went on, though, Alex got a call saying they couldn't make it back for their lunch. Someone else decided to take the initiative and moved my cookies into their spot next to mine on the fridge. So there I was at 3 PM, wondering whether or not to eat the rest of my cookie batch in secret. Turns out, Alex came by late afternoon with a big smile and thanked everyone for moving my bag over for them without even knowing it had been homemade cookies inside all along. That moment really made me feel like an idiot for keeping such a petty little lie just to avoid standing out. Honestly, I'm not sure if anyone even cared about the truth behind those homemade treats. But lying to fit in feels kind of silly now when we're talking about something as simple as sharing a cookie or two. Sometimes you just have to laugh at yourself.
