Old Habits Die Hard

Well, here's something I've been mulling over for days now. You see, last week at my grandkids' school event, I couldn't help but sneak a few jellybeans from the candy jar on their teacher's desk. Now, don't get me wrong, I'm no thief by nature. But there was just something about those bright red and green jellybeans that brought back memories of my own childhood, with their shiny wrappers and sweet, fruity taste. And here I am, a grandparent who should know better, digging through the bowl like some kind of child myself. I couldn't help but wonder if the teacher noticed, or worse yet, if she caught me in the act. It's not as though it was much, a few beans at most, but the guilt is gnawing away at me nonetheless. Was I so desperate for a taste of childhood that I'd take something from someone else? I guess I'll just have to hope this stays our little secret, and perhaps leave some fruit candies next time to make up for it.
