Grandma's Big Secret Snack Swap Gone Awry

So I’ve been having a bit of an issue with my grandkids lately. You see, there’s this one little boy who just can’t get enough candy. His mother and father are always trying to limit it for health reasons, but he still manages to sneak in sweet treats whenever he can. Well, being the crafty grandma that I am, I decided to slip him some healthier snacks without his parents finding out. Little did they know that all those apples and carrot sticks were coming from me! I started by swapping out a few pieces of candy with fruit every time I visited. At first, everything was going smoothly. The boy was still happy because he thought he had the sweet tooth run of the house, and his parents never noticed any change in behavior. But then one day, as fate would have it, while I was at their place, his friend came over with a bag full of candy and decided to raid the cookie jar instead. The friend’s mom saw them digging through it and naturally assumed my grandkids were trying to hide all those treats from me or their parents. So here’s where things got tricky. Instead of correcting her mistake and clarifying that I had been swapping out candies for healthier choices, this other mother decided to call a ‘parents meeting’ about kids sneaking snacks. It wasn’t long before everyone was looking at my grandkids as the culprits! Now I’m not entirely sure how to explain this one without sounding like I’ve been playing favorites or indulging too much in sweets that should be limited. And let me tell you, it’s a bit of a relief knowing the kids are getting healthier snacks, but at what cost? Am I just making things worse by trying to outsmart everyone else? What would you all do in this situation? Is there a way for me to come clean without causing more drama or admitting fault that wasn’t really mine to own?
