I'm Still Upset About That Old Work Incident

So here's the thing, I still haven't gotten over what happened at my old job last year. You know how sometimes you can get so caught up in your work that you forget to look out for yourself? Well, I was that person. My boss had been acting strange ever since our team got a new project manager who everyone seemed to prefer over me. They were always asking the PM questions and leaving me out of meetings. But being the nice guy I am, I thought maybe it was just my imagination or something they'd fix eventually. But one day, we had this big presentation for a client that could have really boosted our career profiles. The boss told us to work on our parts together as a team but then disappeared and left me alone with the new PM. When I showed up at the meeting room, he said my part wasn't ready and that I needed to come back later with updated materials. Of course, I couldn't do this because it was due immediately for a client who had flown in just for us. The client was not happy, let me tell you. They pulled out of our deal and told the boss we weren’t reliable enough for their business needs. It felt like an inside job to sabotage my work, everyone seemed against me except one coworker, who whispered that maybe I should talk to HR about what had been happening. Now, here’s where it gets weird: a week later, the new PM got promoted and I was left in place with no real chance of advancement anytime soon. It feels like even talking to HR might not have made any difference. Sometimes I wonder if I should have just put my foot down earlier or if this is something that happens to everyone at some point. In a way, it's sad because I've always wanted to believe in the idea of working hard and getting ahead, but this incident really shook me up about what it means to succeed. Am I the asshole for not standing up sooner? Or are they the ones who deserve more scrutiny?
