...My Patient's Phone Is Now My Emergency Contact...

So there I was, in the middle of my shift at the hospital, when this one patient comes in... complaining about a bad cold. But it was more than that; they were on their phone constantly... scrolling through social media, ignoring everyone around them... including me. I tried talking to them... telling them they needed to focus and take care of themselves better. But nothing worked. They kept zoning out... and I couldn't get any real information from them about how long they'd been feeling unwell or what symptoms they had. So, being the kind but also no-nonsense nurse that I am... I thought about it for a moment and decided on something different. You know those emergency contact stickers people put on their phones? Yeah... I got to thinking... After making sure my manager was okay with it (she was actually amused)... I took out my phone during one of the quiet moments in the shift and downloaded an app that allows for temporary remote access. Then, while they were distracted... I quickly added myself as a new emergency contact on their phone. Now every time someone tries to use their phone or contacts them, it pops up asking if they need help contacting me first. And it's been hilarious watching the looks on people's faces... Sure, some might think that's crossing a line... but hey, I'm doing my job and trying to make sure patients actually listen to me. Plus, who knew social media detox could be so beneficial? They're finally focusing more on their health now... So yeah, this is my confession... I added myself as an emergency contact to a patient's phone... and it’s working wonders for them getting better faster. Maybe there should be a medical code name for that kind of intervention?
