Why Did I Buy All That Coffee?

So there I was, Saturday morning, waking up just as the sun is starting to rise. You know how it feels when you’re half-asleep and everything seems like a good idea at the time? Well, that’s exactly what happened. I decided to buy coffee from all these different cafes around town for no real reason other than curiosity. Now, I get why people talk about having too much caffeine, my heart is beating out of my chest from just walking back home with five cups in a bag. Why did I do it? Well, I blame social media. See, last week this barista posted the most stunning latte art on Instagram, and suddenly everyone was talking about their favorite coffee spots. It’s like when you see someone post pictures of vacation and suddenly your own life feels boring in comparison. So here I am, trying to add a little adventure to my weekend by seeking out all these places that other people rave about online. I spent the next few hours at home trying to figure out which one was the best. You know how you can taste the difference between drip coffee and espresso? Well, there’s also the difference when someone pours in those extra artistic elements versus just making a regular cup. And then there were all these odd flavors I’d never tried before: matcha with lavender syrup, turmeric latte with ginger, cardamom lattes, it was sensory overload. But as fun as it was to try each one, my stomach started to feel weird by mid-afternoon. And I’m not talking butterflies from the caffeine either; this is a full-on queasy feeling like maybe I drank too much too quickly. Now I’m just sitting here, having regretted every sip of that third cup. So yeah, if anyone ever asks me how my weekend was? Well, it’s been eventful alright. And apparently now I know the difference between all these fancy coffee places, though honestly, maybe sticking to what I like and know isn’t so bad either.
