My Little Lie About My Progress

So I've been working on this research paper for my grad class, and it's taking longer than I thought. But you know how it goes, you get that moment when your professor asks the group, 'How are things coming along?' And here’s what I did: I looked at him and said, 'Oh, totally done! Just waiting on some final edits.' Inside, my heart was racing like a cheetah chasing its prey. But then I started thinking, you know, maybe if everyone else is lagging behind too, they'll think it's not such a big deal? Or are we all just making up stories to avoid the truth? It’s funny how our brains work like that, one second you’re telling a tiny fib, and the next, your mind starts questioning every little thing. Oh well, at least I didn't burn any bridges or anything. Here's hoping my real progress catches up with what I told everyone before they start asking questions.
