Shift End Blues

Anonymous Cunning Flirt #155 · General

You know those days when you're just ready for a shift to end? Yeah, it happened again last night. Not that I hate my job or anything, but there's this one regular customer who thinks he's hilarious but honestly just creeps me out. He's the type who always has some joke about his ex-wife or why I should come over and watch him bake cookies. The other night, after he made another crack about coming by to help me move into a bigger place (read: my apartment), I was so ready for this shift to end that I accidentally mixed up two orders at the register. Imagine spilling coffee on someone's favorite shirt, that's what it felt like when I handed over the wrong beer and chips combo. Luckily, they took it in stride and just laughed it off. But you know how it goes; one little mistake can make a night seem longer than it actually is. It was probably just 15 minutes late to close, but honestly, I swear it felt like hours. So now, when the clock ticks down to my last hour of work for the day, I breathe a sigh of relief and think about that time I almost got fired over some guy who never knows when to quit with his jokes. But hey, on the bright side, at least I have all these stories to tell myself in the quiet moments.
