I Lie About My Work Hours Sometimes
Anonymous Meddling Rascal #734 · General
So I've been working from home as a freelancer for about two years now. It’s pretty chill and all, but you know how it is, you get wrapped up in projects or just plain lazy and the day flies by... Then suddenly it's 7 PM and you realize you haven't left your pajamas on their designated chair yet. This week has been particularly rough because I've been trying to catch up with a few personal things that got put off for so long. But here’s the thing, when my mom calls me, she asks how work is going... And it's funny because there are times where I'll say something like, 'Oh yeah, super busy today,' even if I’ve only managed an hour or two of actual work. It's not really a lie so much as an embellishment, but still, it feels wrong to fib about such little things. Maybe it’s just that feeling of inadequacy... You know, like you can't admit you're having a lazy day even when there’s no one watching over your shoulder at all? And then I feel guilty for hours after because maybe I should just be honest and say 'I've been procrastinating again...' It's silly to beat myself up over it though...
