...My Childhood Prank Gone Wrong...

Well, this is something that's been gnawing at me for decades now. I was always the practical joker in my family. You know how kids are, always looking to stir up some chaos and laughter with harmless pranks. But there was one particular time when I crossed a line without even knowing it... And it didn't turn out so well... I remember this vividly, the night I decided to scare my younger sister, Mary. She had just started getting into her Halloween costume phase, so she loved anything spooky and eerie. I figured the perfect prank would be to hide behind the closet door one dark evening when I knew she was in there changing... With a few well-timed bangs on the wall and some ghostly moans, it should have been funny... But things took an unexpected turn. My timing was just off by a second or two. She came out of her room just as I made my eerie noises... Right into me... And she screamed so loudly that Dad had to come investigate. Turns out she thought something real spooky was happening and felt like it might be a ghost trying to get inside... Now, in the moment, everyone brushed it off with laughs and jokes, except for Mary who never quite let it go. She avoided the dark alone ever after... I tried to make amends over time by being super protective of her on spooky nights, but sometimes I think she still holds a grudge against me... It was just supposed to be a silly joke like so many others back then. But it felt like one of those moments that stick with you forever, like maybe I crossed an invisible line as a kid when pranks were supposed to be innocent and fun. It's strange how one little incident from long ago can stay in your head...
