Lost My Cool at Work

I started a new job two months ago as an account manager at a small marketing firm. The work is fast-paced and I've been doing well, handling multiple clients and meeting deadlines with ease. My coworker Jamie has been helpful, showing me the ropes and providing support when I needed it. But lately, our dynamic changed. Jamie started taking credit for my ideas in meetings and emails to higher-ups. At first, I confronted them privately about it, trying to be professional and understanding. I told them how important it is to give proper attribution because these clients could become big accounts for the company. Then Jamie's birthday rolled around last week, and everyone got together after work to celebrate at a nearby bar. There was alcohol involved and we were all having fun. I had too much to drink and felt frustrated about my ideas being stolen again. When it came time for me to give a toast, I let loose. Instead of being the supportive team member, I ended up calling out Jamie in front of everyone. 'You know what? Your birthday means nothing to me,' I said loudly over the music. 'I work hard here and deserve recognition for my own ideas.' Everyone went silent. The bar manager came over to check if everything was okay because they thought we were a bachelorette party gone bad. My coworkers all looked stunned, Jamie included, who turned pale white. I could see them struggling to come up with a response before leaving quickly out the door without finishing their drink or cake. The next day at work, everyone avoided eye contact and whispered amongst themselves. My boss pulled me aside later on to talk about my outburst, saying it wasn't professional behavior and we needed to address the issue more constructively in the future. Now I feel embarrassed but relieved too because getting that off my chest felt good even if it meant losing my cool at work.
