I Lied About My Allowance

So, I know what you're thinking, a kid lying about allowance? How big of a deal could that be? But let me tell you the whole story, and you might see why this little fib was more than just being naughty. It all started when my older sister got a new bike for her birthday. It's like this shiny, red beauty, everyone wants to ride it. Well, not just ride it, I mean own something as cool. So, when Mom announced that we were getting $20 each in allowance for the month, I decided to put a plan into action. I knew my sister was saving her money to get some new video games. She's really good at holding onto cash and not spending it all on silly stuff like candy or toys. So, what did I do? Yeah, that’s right, I told Mom that I already had enough savings for the bike. The truth is, I had barely saved any of my allowance. It was mostly spent on snacks from the vending machine at school. The day we got our allowance, I didn't touch a penny. Instead, I waited until it was just me and Dad to explain about needing more money for my birthday present, the bike. He seemed a bit taken aback but gave in. The look of relief on his face made me feel bad, but also guilty. I bought that bike, rode it around proudly, and told everyone I saved up for it myself. But every time someone complimented it or asked how long I'd been saving, my heart would sink a bit more. Now that school is back in session and no one sees the bike as often, I can admit what happened to myself, I lied about my allowance just to get something cool faster. I know it's not much of an admission, but to me, it’s a big deal. It was the first time I broke one of those unwritten rules we have at home: no lying for easy ways out. So, yeah, here's my confession, I fibbed about allowance for a bike I wanted, and it felt worse than just getting caught with a stolen cookie. Now I feel better about telling someone.
