When I Had Enough of Play Dates

You know that feeling when your kids are having the time of their lives at a play date but you're sitting there with all these questions and nothing to contribute? Well, yesterday was one of those days. It started off okay, I brought snacks, helped set up crafts, tried my best small talk with other parents. But by 2 PM, I had reached my limit. One kid threw mashed potatoes, another went for the crayons like a hungry bear, and my son got into a food fight that ended in an epic paint battle across their living room carpet. Meanwhile, all I wanted was to escape and hide under a rock where no one needed me to solve problems or referee snack time disputes. So there I am, exhausted and covered in art supplies, thinking: 'Why did no one warn me about the chaos that is play dates?' Yet here we are, planning another for next week. Maybe this time I’ll sneak out with a book and hide in the backyard shed until it's over.
