I Was the One Who Put Glow-in-the-Dark Stars on My Kids' Bed Sheets Without Their Consent

So here’s my confession. It’s a long story and I’ve been meaning to get this off my chest for weeks now. Last week, it finally happened. The kids were fast asleep when I decided it was the perfect night to redecorate their room. You see, I’ve had these glow-in-the-dark stars hanging around in a drawer since before they even knew what stars were, and ever since then, I kept telling myself that one day would be the right moment to surprise them with this little touch of magic. Well, last week was it. I’m not sure why I chose that particular night, I mean, both kids had been complaining about sleep issues for weeks now, saying there weren’t enough stars in their room to help them feel cozy and safe at bedtime. So what better time than when they were dead asleep? The plan was simple: sneak into the room while the others slept soundly, stick the stars onto their sheets (I wanted it to look like the sky fell inside their bedroom), and wait for them to wake up in a few hours to see their reaction. There would be no telling how they’d react! Maybe even ask if they liked it. As quietly as I could, I unwrapped the pack of stars and began affixing them all over their sheets, starting from the corners and working my way toward the center. It took me a good hour to finish because each star had to be placed just right. I couldn’t help but laugh at myself; this was ridiculous! Once done, I felt like a magician with a secret trick up my sleeve waiting for its big reveal. But alas, they slept through it. Now, every time one of them comes into the room, I’m on edge, what if they hate it? What if they ask why all these stars are stuck to their bed sheets? I’ve been walking on eggshells ever since and feel like a complete goof for doing this whole thing behind their backs. Am I the asshole here or just an overly eager mom trying her best? Either way, I’m not sure what’s going to happen when they finally figure out that Dad wasn’t in charge of decorating that night.
