Missing Home Like Crazy

So, I've been here in college for like, two months now? Yeah, it's been...interesting. You know how they say time flies when you're having fun? Well, I feel more like every day just stretches out into this endless gray blur where everything is kind of the same. My room looks different and stuff, but honestly, sometimes I close my eyes and swear I'm still in my old bedroom at home with all those pictures on the wall and Mom's cooking coming from downstairs. I mean, it's not that I don't like college or anything, there are cool things about it! Like, I met this one kid in my history class who seems super smart. But even though we chat sometimes, it just feels weirdly lonely. Last night, I was sitting up way past midnight because I couldn't sleep and I was watching some boring documentary on Netflix when suddenly, I thought about how back home, Dad would have been yelling at me to go to bed already for the fourth time that week! It made me laugh, but also feel like such a mess. And you know how everyone talks about making new friends? I'm trying, really. But it's hard because I'm used to just having one best friend back home who gets everything about me. Maybe this is normal or maybe I'm just being a baby about it all, but sometimes it feels like everyone around here has their own group and their own stories that don't have space for me. I miss my mom's homemade lasagna the most, honestly. The sauce with just the right amount of spice, you know? And how she would leave these little notes for us on the fridge when we were younger, it was like our own secret language in a way. I used to laugh so hard at them sometimes. Maybe I'll call her tonight and ask if she could send me the recipe or something, just as an excuse to talk to her. Anyway, this is probably a total ramble but I've been holding onto these feelings for weeks now and figured it was time to let them out somehow.
