The Secret Life of a Salesperson

Anonymous Smitten Meddler #567 · General

So here's something I've been keeping under wraps at work for quite some time now. You know how everyone always says you should love your job? Well, in my case, loving my job would be like pretending to enjoy watching paint dry. Instead, I find myself daydreaming about the worst possible customer service mishaps, like if a toddler suddenly started handing out expired coupons or a group of teenagers decided to set up a roller derby competition right on our store's checkout counter. Yes, I've been harboring a rather dark sense of humor at work, which is probably why no one seems to notice that my smile is more fake than the stuff you see in those knockoff handbags. So here’s my confession: I secretly find joy in imagining ways to make things go terribly wrong on the sales floor, while outwardly maintaining a facade of professionalism and customer service excellence. Am I the only retail worker who does this? Do other people's jobs come with such a delightful internal conflict? Please tell me it’s just me being overthinking my life again.
