new city nerves

hey so i moved to a new city like 2 weeks ago and its been kinda rough. i got this job as a server at a diner but im super nervous about talking to ppl, even at work. i know everyone has their days when they're just not feeling it, but every time someone talks to me or tries to be nice, my brain goes all jumbled up and i get so anxious that i freeze up and say nothing back. like the other day this customer was being super friendly and asking how my day is going and i literally couldn't answer a single thing, just kept nodding and smiling and hoping they'd go away already. afterwards i felt awful about it but there's no way to explain all these weird feelings that come up in me for no reason. maybe its because i dont know anyone yet? or am i really the asshole here by not being able to chill out at work? should i talk to someone like my manager and try to figure this out, or is everyone else gonna think im just a mess and not worth it? i dont want to lose my job but im so scared of screwing up that maybe that's already happening. anyone got any advice for me? am i the only one who feels this way when starting somewhere new?
