When My Siblings Think I'm an Overgrown Kid (But That's Fine With Me)
Anonymous Winking Flirt #230 · General
So here’s a story that will probably make my siblings groan but also secretly makes me chuckle. We’re talking about our childhood, and how they both were way more mature than me even back then. While my brother was already obsessing over video games and my sister was reading all these complicated books and doing school projects, I was still content building Lego castles and playing with toy cars. It wasn’t until much later that I caught up to their levels of maturity, but by that time, the stereotype had stuck. You know how sometimes people say you should always play the hand you’re dealt? Well, in this case, it felt like no matter what I did, I was always seen as the baby of the family. Even now, when we go home for visits or family dinners, my siblings still treat me like a little kid who needs to be reminded of the rules and can't handle grown-up conversation. But you know what? I don’t care anymore! It’s funny how people think that being mature all the time makes you more respected, but sometimes it's just about finding your own path. Sure, part of me wants them to see that I’m a full-fledged adult now, but another part of me finds humor in their continued assumption. When we were kids, they were always trying to impress each other or our parents with how grown-up they could act, and here I am doing my own thing and loving it. I once decided to prove them wrong by taking on a big project at work that would show I’m capable of handling responsibility. After pulling some serious late nights and finally getting the job done, I was proud of myself, but when I told them about it, they just kind of nodded and said something like, “Oh cool.” They didn’t seem surprised or impressed at all. So you know what? Forget proving anyone wrong. If anything, being seen as a kid sometimes means I can get away with things my siblings never could. Like staying up past their bedtime to watch movies or telling Dad he’s the coolest when everyone else thinks it's silly to say that kind of thing anymore. And honestly, isn’t there something refreshing about not worrying too much about fitting into an adult mold? In short, I might be seen as less mature by my siblings, but they probably miss out on the fun parts of life because they take everything so seriously. At least for now, I’ll keep enjoying being that kid at heart and reveling in their puzzled looks.
