New Kid in Town Struggles a Bit

So I just moved to this new city and my mom forced me to join a local club to meet people. First day was like, super awkward, everyone seemed so chill and cool, but all I could think about was how much I wished I had stayed home playing video games. Then last night, while trying to fall asleep in this weirdly quiet neighborhood, I suddenly started crying because of how lonely it felt. Mom said it's normal to feel like that sometimes. Is it really? Anyone out there ever move and join a club just to make friends?
