Drinks and Dilemmas...

So, I'm the bartender at this dive bar down by the riverfront. Yeah, it's pretty chill, you know? Mostly regulars, a few locals who come in when they want to unwind from work or just need someone to listen. Anyway, I've been doing this for a while now... and yeah, people tend to spill their guts to me after a couple of pints. But there was this one guy last night... let's call him Tom. We've had our fair share of chats over the months, but nothing too deep really. Last night though, he just blurts out this long story about his childhood dog who died, and how it's been eating away at him for years because he never got to say goodbye properly. I mean... wow. I tried being supportive, you know? But honestly, did anyone ever tell you it was part of the job description to be a shoulder to cry on? Now, don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining or anything... but is this something normal for other bartenders too? Am I just overthinking it or is everyone else out there drowning in other people's heartbreak and nostalgia?
