White Lie at Playgroup

I told another mom today that my kid has started reading chapter books. In reality, they're still mostly into picture books with a few early readers mixed in. I felt like lying to inflate our status a bit; it made me feel bad, but also oddly satisfied when she looked impressed and envious. I should be proud of where my child is at developmentally instead of feeling the need to compete or impress other parents. Maybe next time I'll just say something honest.
