I Told My Boss I Couldn't Attend The Team Lunch Because Of A 'Doctor's Appointment' When Really It Was For My Haircut

So, I had this thing about my hair. It needed a trim, but the timing was just all wrong. We were having our monthly team lunch at work, and every time we do, I feel like everyone is looking at me in this weird way. It's probably just my mind playing tricks on me, but it feels real to me. Anyway, so there I was, standing in front of the bathroom mirror at home with scissors in hand. My hair looked okay that day, and yet here I am, thinking about cutting it myself. I know, risky move for someone who's not exactly a pro. But you get those moments where you just can't take your appearance being off anymore. I decided to skip the team lunch because of my “doctor’s appointment.” Yeah, that lie is as old as time itself but still, it was something I could quickly type out and send before my boss could ask too many questions. And the funny thing? When you’re stressed about your hair not being perfect, every hair out of place seems to scream louder than usual. Then came the day after. My boss asked me how the appointment went, all curious as if he really cared (or maybe he was just pretending). I told him everything was fine and that my doctor had given some routine advice about maintaining healthy hair. Little did he know! I'm still feeling a bit guilty about it now. Was lying to avoid something as trivial as team lunch justified? Did I do the right thing by putting my hair care before my coworkers' feelings? It’s weird how such small decisions can weigh so heavily on your mind.
