Today's Lie

So I was at the grocery store today and saw that my favorite brand of chocolate is on sale. But you know how it goes with chocolate, right? A little voice in your head says 'Nope' and another louder one says 'But why not?' So there I am, trying to be a good parent and stick to the budget, but let's face it, who ever has enough chocolate in their life? Anyways, so I put the chocolate at the bottom of my shopping cart behind all these healthy things like carrots and cereal. And when we got home, I was all set to hide them under the sink until they're 'needed,' you know how that goes. But then my daughter saw me hiding it and said 'Mommy, what are you doing? Are we having a secret chocolate stash?' And here's where I made my mistake. Instead of being honest (which would've been the right thing), I said 'Oh honey, no chocolate today. We'll get some later when your dad is around to buy special treats.' It felt so petty at the time but hey, it worked. Now I'm just left with this weird feeling in my gut because I lied about something as silly as chocolate.
