I Let My Kid Eat Ice Cream for Breakfast...

So here's my thing, last week I let my kid eat ice cream for breakfast. Now, before you all gasp and say I'm the worst parent ever, hear me out. It was 6 AM on a school day...he'd had no sleep the night before thanks to some kind of monster in his room that made him scream and shake with fear (probably a loose sock or something). He looked like he needed a miracle breakfast, not some bowl of oatmeal. I tried cereal, toast, everything. Then my son asked if we could have ice cream instead, his eyes went from dead to wide awake at the mention of it. And I thought, why not? One serving of vanilla couldn't hurt. I mean, it's just a tiny thing... Turns out his energy was through the roof after that...and he spent the entire day bouncing off walls. The teachers were great about it but I felt like they gave me this look, you know the one where you're thinking 'Really? Ice cream for breakfast?' And by mid-afternoon, my kid was so wired, I had to give him a whole series of calming baths with lavender and chamomile just to get him to sleep that night. Talk about a mistake. But here's the thing, sometimes it takes an ice cream disaster to teach you that maybe there are better ways to deal with monsters under beds...or at least better breakfast options. And hey, now I know one way NOT to do it next time. So yeah, I'm the guy who let his kid eat ice cream for breakfast but also...it was funny? A little bit? So...that's my confession. Anyone else ever done something this silly with their kids? Or maybe you did it and felt terrible too? Let me know in the comments if you've had an epic breakfast mistake of your own. Maybe we can form a support group for parents who feel guilty over sugar-high mornings.
