Went Overboard with Sales Pitching

So I work at this big box store and one of my coworkers always teases me for being too enthusiastic when I'm trying to sell something. Like, the other day a customer came in looking for batteries but seemed unsure about which ones they needed, so I went all out explaining how our new extended-life battery is better than anything else on the market. Turns out the guy just wanted some AAAs because he was going camping over the weekend and that's what his kids' flashlights take. I guess my 'selling like a champ' vibe isn't always helpful, sometimes it seems to make people feel rushed or uncomfortable! But hey, at least I'm trying to help? Oh, and on another day, I mistakenly recommended an expensive soundbar instead of a simple TV speaker set for someone who was just looking for basic home theater stuff. Guess my eagerness can get me into trouble too sometimes. Now every time a customer comes in with a vague question, I find myself biting back all the cool gadgets I want to talk about. It's tough to keep that balance between being helpful and not overwhelming people.
