Why Did I Say That?

I'm not sure if it was the stress of a particularly difficult client project or just plain old Monday morning grogginess, but yesterday I made a small yet significant misstep. At 2 PM sharp, my calendar reminded me that one of my clients had requested a quick update on their latest design project. As usual, I logged into Zoom and we started the meeting with pleasantries before diving in. Midway through, the client asked for an update on the progress of their preferred color scheme. And here's where things got tricky, I hadn't actually made much progress since our last call a week ago, mainly due to some technical difficulties and personal life distractions. But instead of being honest about my slow pace or admitting that I needed more time, I gave them this vague answer about how the colors were 'shaping up nicely' and that they'd soon see some amazing results. Now, as I sit here typing this confession, it's clear to me that while lying might have salvaged a bit of short-term peace, in the long run, it could potentially hurt my credibility. Maybe next time, I'll bite the bullet and just be upfront about where things stand.
