Shifts When I'm Sadest

Ever since my parents split up last year, I find myself pouring way too much sugar into my coffee orders. The syrup starts as a little pick-me-up for me and the customers seem to love it, but lately it's turning into more of an emotional crutch. At first, people would compliment how sweet my drinks are, and that always made me feel better. Now I just want to drown out my own sadness by making each drink taste like dessert. Tonight was especially rough, I accidentally poured extra syrup on a couple orders because I zoned out thinking about all the stuff going wrong at home. When my shift ended, I went straight into the kitchen and gulped down half a bottle of chocolate syrup as a substitute for comfort food. Tomorrow is another day, but tonight feels like an endless night where sugar is my only friend.
