The Case of the Missing Chocolate Cake

So I’ve been feeling really conflicted lately about this one incident that happened last week. It’s a small thing in the grand scheme of life, but it’s bugging me so much. See, my little brother Tim is obsessed with chocolate cake. Whenever we have birthday parties or holidays where dessert is involved, you can always count on him to go straight for the chocolate cake and eat more than his fair share. It’s not that I mind, Tim’s just a kid who loves sweets, but this week was different. We were at grandma’s house last Sunday because it was her birthday. Now, everyone knows my grandmother has an extra sweet tooth, but she always bakes in moderation. So when she announced that there would be chocolate cake for dessert, I kind of had to mentally prepare myself. But what really set me off was seeing the entire tray of three big round cakes come out from the oven. Three! That’s enough to feed a small army. After dinner, my sister Sarah and I tried to make sure everyone else got their fair share before Tim made his move, but he’s fast when it comes to chocolate cake. We managed to keep him occupied with games until dessert was served, making sure no one saw the cakes disappear too quickly. However, once Tim had finished off a large slice of each cake (seriously, I swear he had five helpings), my eyes began wandering back to those empty spots on the tray. I’m usually not one for indulging in excess desserts or taking advantage of anyone’s treats, especially grandma’s, but something about seeing that much chocolate cake go unfinished just felt wrong. So when everyone was distracted with birthday wishes and opening gifts, I casually picked up a slice from each tray and placed it in the fridge under a random container of leftovers. Now here’s where things get complicated. Grandma didn’t seem to notice right away, but Tim did catch me moving those pieces around while clearing the table. He gave me this look like he wanted to say something, but didn’t dare. It was clear he felt betrayed by my actions because now I have this chocolate cake sitting in the fridge that technically doesn't belong to us. This whole thing is bothering me more than it should be. Part of me wants to just give those slices back and take any consequences head-on while another part thinks it’s okay since we’re all family anyway. But seeing Tim’s face, his trust in me shattered over a slice of chocolate cake, has made me feel like an asshole ever since. I really need some advice on this, guys. Am I the one here who needs to learn better self-control or is there something else at play?
