I Might Be Overthinking My Prank War on the Night Shift

So, I work nights at this warehouse. It’s like a graveyard of boxes and packing tape. The regular crew and I have been there for ages, and we’ve all gotten pretty close. A few months back, one of my coworkers started playing these silly practical jokes on everyone, like tying strings to desk chairs so they tangle when someone tries to sit down or putting bouncy balls under keyboards. It was annoying but kind of funny in a way that made us laugh at ourselves. At first, I thought it would be easy to just stay out of the fray and mind my own business. But then one night, while everyone else was busy goofing around and having fun with these jokes, I decided to fight back. You know how sometimes you just can’t resist? I started small, setting up some harmless traps but trying to make them cleverer than the others’. For instance, there’s this tiny door at the back of the break room that leads to a rarely used storeroom. I put a sign on it saying “Caution: Ghost Ahead!” with a picture cutout from an old Halloween poster. We all got a good laugh about it. Then things escalated. One night, after seeing a coworker leave their water bottle unattended at the machine, I filled it with colored water (a fun but messy prank). They came back to find it completely stained and had this look on their face that was half angry and half impressed, if you can imagine such a thing. Now everyone is joining in, and we’ve got these little competitions going. It’s all in good fun, but there are times when I wonder what people think of me now that they know how silly and playful I am behind the quiet work persona I usually maintain. Sometimes it feels like overkill, but I can’t help myself, pranking has become my new way to unwind at work. And so here’s where we stand: a bunch of adults laughing and playing tricks like kids on the night shift. Sure, some days it might be too much, but mostly it’s just been a blast. Who would’ve thought that the quiet guy in the warehouse could stir up such commotion with nothing more than tape, signs, and a few well-placed water balloons?
