Moving Mishap in My New City

So I recently moved to a new city for my job, and things are going well overall. The apartment is great, the commute isn't too bad, and I'm starting to make some friends at work. But one day, something happened that made me feel pretty guilty, so here goes nothing. On Saturday morning, I woke up early because of a really loud noise coming from my new neighbor's apartment next door. It sounded like they were moving furniture around or just being generally disruptive early in the morning. Now, normally, I'd be okay with it if someone is settling into their place, but considering how quiet this building usually is, and also that we're not supposed to make noise before 9 AM on weekdays according to our lease, I got pretty annoyed. Instead of knocking on the door or messaging them about the noise (which is what most people would do), I decided to be a bit passive-aggressive. I went out into the hallway and placed my vacuum cleaner near their apartment door with its cord plugged in but not turned on, you know, that little sound it makes when there's electricity going through? Yeah, that one. At first, I felt pretty smug about it, like I was cleverly showing them how loud they were being. But then I started to realize the irony of me trying to be sneaky and causing more noise in the process. And here I am now, wondering if my new neighbors are as annoyed with me as I think they might be. Plus, what kind of message does this send about how I'm going to handle problems from now on? So yeah, turns out I was a bit too clever for my own good and just ended up feeling pretty silly afterwards. Not exactly the way I wanted to start making friends in my new city.
