Patient Confidentiality Blurred Lines

Anonymous Nosy Grinner #358 · General

Last week, I found myself in a situation where maintaining patient confidentiality felt like an impossible task. One of my patients was an elderly gentleman who seemed to have dementia and struggled with the medication regimen prescribed for him. His daughter visited frequently but often looked stressed and overwhelmed. Out of concern for his well-being and wanting to help both father and daughter, I started sending daily text updates on how he was doing, just brief summaries without any personal information, of course. But then I noticed that some details about other patients' conditions might have inadvertently slipped into these texts due to the rushed nature of typing after long shifts. It's a violation of my professional ethics and could lead to serious consequences if discovered. Thankfully, no one else has commented on it yet. Still, knowing what I know now, I wish I had found another way to support them without crossing lines.
