When I Tried to Impress My Roommate and It Backfired Horribly
Anonymous Charming Flirt #228 · General
So here's this thing that happened recently. You know when you start college, and suddenly everything feels so grown up? Well, for me, that means trying to be the cool, independent person everyone expects a college student to be. But deep down, I'm still pretty much the same goofy kid who got nervous about making friends back in middle school. Anyway, my roommate, Alex, is this super chill and laid-back guy. He seems like he's done it all before, parties, internships, you name it. And here I am, a total newbie to everything college life offers. So naturally, I wanted so badly for him to think I was cool too. The other day, we were talking about hobbies and stuff. Alex mentioned that he’s pretty into cooking and baking, which is something I’ve always wanted to get better at but never really had the chance or courage back home. Seemed like a perfect opportunity! So, I decided to surprise him by bringing in these fancy cookies I bought from this gourmet bakery downtown. I thought it would be impressive. Well, let’s just say it didn’t go as planned. Alex is actually pretty talented with recipes and baking tools, so when he took one bite of my store-bought cookie, his face was a mix of surprise and pity. He asked if that was really what I baked myself, which was awkward because, yeah, it wasn't mine at all. I tried to laugh it off, saying something like, 'Well, who knew cooking would be so hard?' But in reality, the whole thing left me feeling pretty embarrassed. Here I am trying to impress my roommate by buying stuff instead of making something myself, and failing miserably at even that little white lie. Anyway, I learned my lesson. Next time we talk about baking or any other hobby, I’ll bring something I’ve actually made or work on getting better at it rather than pretending I’m already there. But yeah, I'm the asshole in this story, trying to fit in and failing by buying stuff instead of doing things myself.
