Tired of the Same Old Routine

I’ve been a nurse for over a decade now, and I feel like every day blurs into the next. The faces change, but the stories don’t. There’s John in room 325 who’s always asking when his daughter can visit despite being perfectly capable of going to the cafeteria himself. And then there’s Mrs. Lee, insisting that her pain medication is less effective than it should be, even though the dosage hasn’t changed since she came in three weeks ago. It’s draining, and I’ve started keeping a journal just to vent about these things, but even my writing feels repetitive now. Sometimes, when I’m alone at home with nothing but silence around me, I wonder if there was ever something more to this career than what it seems like today, a constant battle against bureaucratic inefficiencies and patients’ unrealistic expectations. It’s hard not to feel a bit jaded.
