My Silly Snafu at Work

So I work in this really busy hospital as a nurse. You know how nurses have these lists of tasks to do for every patient? Well, yesterday was one of those days where it felt like the list was never-ending. But today, I want to confess something hilarious and mortifying that happened last week with Mr. Jenkins, our grumpy old man who always complains about everything. Anyway, I had a note from his doctor saying he needed an IV drip. Easy peasy, right? So I set it up, thinking all was good, but then Mr. Jenkins started squawking like usual. He said the medicine wasn't working and wanted something stronger. That's when my mind went into autopilot. Oh gosh, what did I do next? Well, you see, there are these little red labels we put on IV bags to mark them as 'ready for use.' And in my haste, I grabbed one of those stickers, which just happened to be sitting near a box of orange juice. But instead of putting the label directly on the IV bag, I thought it was supposed to go somewhere else... So there I am, trying to figure out where Mr. Jenkins' medication went when I notice this bright red sticker on his juice bottle. And he's drinking away like everything is normal! The moment it clicked in my head what had happened, I nearly burst into laughter right then and there. But the poor man was already suspicious as it was; how could I explain to him that I'd stuck his label on his orange juice instead of his medication? So I just pretended it was all part of a new hospital initiative for vitamin C intake and quickly got him some actual medicine. He seemed convinced, though he gave me a funny look and grumbled about nurses these days. The funny thing is, whenever I see Mr. Jenkins now, he always asks if there are more stickers for his juice. Oh boy, talk about a silly mistake turning into an inside joke! But honestly, I'll never forget the look on my own face when it clicked what had happened; priceless!
