I Broke My Sister's Phone To Prove A Point
Anonymous Meddling Charmer #361 · General
My sister, Rachel, got a new phone last week. It was shiny and sleek, the latest model with all the bells and whistles. She showed it off to everyone in our family, except me. I mean, she did mention it, but never let me see it or play around with its features. I didn't like that much. We got into an argument over this the other day. It wasn't about the phone, though, we were just tired of each other's bullshit after a long week at work and school. We ended up fighting over dumb stuff: whose turn it was to do the dishes, who forgot to text back first, etc. After we calmed down a bit from our argument, I couldn't stop thinking about how she showed off her new phone like a trophy but kept me out of it. That made me mad. Then last night, when everyone else had gone to bed and Rachel was still online, chatting with friends on social media, I just snapped. I snuck into her room while she was sleeping, went straight for the charger plugged into my side table, yeah, that's where she left it overnight, unplugged it, and slipped it under some old books in the back of a drawer. I hid it really well too; no one would find it easily. I figured out this morning when I saw her frantically searching for her charger, getting frustrated and worried about losing her phone's warranty or something if she couldn't power it up. She looked so stressed and upset that my plan worked, but I also felt a tiny bit of regret because seeing her like that made me realize how childish I was being. Anyway, the day went on with everyone asking where Rachel's charger was and whether her phone would turn back on once she got to work later. The guilt kept nagging at me, so eventually, I found it in my drawer and put everything back as if nothing happened. But now I have this weird feeling of being a complete jerk for pranking her over something as stupid as keeping a charger hidden. I'm not sure what's going to happen next with Rachel and me; we're siblings, so we'll probably work it out eventually. Still, it feels like I crossed some kind of line playing this silly trick.
