Grad Student Meltdown Over Quizzes
Anonymous Suspicious Rascal #274 · General
Hey there fellow humans! So I’m a grad student working on my thesis in the humanities. My advisor is one of those really eccentric and brilliant professors who somehow managed to become an expert in obscure 17th-century literature and also knows everything about memes. Anyway, every time we have a quiz over the reading, I think I ace it because I read all this crazy old text closely and get the context. Then she throws these random pop quizzes that cover just the memes or tweets from class, and suddenly my grade drops like an asteroid hitting Earth. It's funny because the stuff from our classes is supposed to be 'relevant,' but how relevant is a tweet when you need to know obscure literary allusions? Am I being silly to feel this way? Or am I just not cut out for meme studies?
