The New Kid Screw-Up

So I started my first job as an administrative assistant at this big accounting firm two weeks ago. It's been hectic but manageable so far, you know, the usual paperwork and emails. But today was a disaster, and honestly, I don't think I can face everyone again without them thinking I'm incompetent or something. I came in super early this morning because my commute took longer than expected due to an accident on the highway. By the time I got here at 7:15 AM, it was already chaotic, people were rushing around, setting up for a big client meeting that starts in about an hour. Everyone seemed stressed. I thought maybe I could help out by getting some coffee and donuts from the nearby café before anyone else arrived. It's usually a nice gesture to set a positive tone on hectic days like these. So off I went, feeling pretty good about my idea. But what do you think happened? Yeah, while walking back with a tray full of hot coffee cups, someone nearly collided with me in the hallway and knocked over two large lattes. I dropped everything right there, papers everywhere, scalding liquid splattering on the floor and across my new black suit. I tried to clean it up as best I could but ended up spilling even more stuff trying to grab everything at once. It was like a real-life disaster movie in slow motion. To top it all off, when the head of our department came in at 8 AM sharp and saw me covered in coffee stains, papers strewn about her office floor, she wasn't exactly thrilled with my 'help.' I apologized profusely but couldn’t hide how embarrassed I felt. And now everyone probably thinks I'm a clumsy mess. I don’t think they will fire me or anything; it was just one terrible moment in an otherwise decent week of work. But still, this whole day has left me feeling like I need to apologize to everyone for my blunder and hoping that it doesn't overshadow all the good things I've done at the job so far. I hope no one reads this as a big deal, I'm just venting because today was such an awful start. If anyone else out there has had similar mishaps, feel free to share your stories too.
