The Note That Changed Everything

I wrote a note to my best friend Sam last year. We had been friends since kindergarten and everything was great until I started feeling jealous of him spending time with other people. One day, while we were in study hall, I saw him talking to our classmate Emily who recently moved here from another city. I remember sitting there, staring at them, my heart pounding. That night, I couldn't sleep thinking about it. The next morning during lunch, I asked Sam if he wanted to do homework together after school. He agreed and I thought this was the perfect chance to write a note that would make him jealous like me. So when we were alone in the library, I slipped the note into his notebook. The note said 'If you liked someone else more than me, why don't you just go for it?' After handing back my notebook, I pretended nothing happened and focused on our homework. A week later, Sam mentioned he had to cancel our plans because Emily invited him out somewhere. He looked so happy about it that I felt a sharp sting of anger. I confronted him right there in the hallway about his 'crush' on her, thinking he would be surprised or upset by my note. But instead, Sam laughed and said something along the lines of 'Oh no! Did you really believe me to be so shallow? We've known each other since we were kids - what is this all about?' My cheeks burned as I realized how silly it was for me to think writing a passive-aggressive note would solve anything. Sam's reaction made me see how much he values our friendship and how immature my actions had been. That day, the library incident became a running joke between us - not in a mean way, but just that we both laughed about my overreaction. Looking back now, I think it was one of those moments where you realize your friend's worth is more important than any petty jealousies or misunderstandings.
