The Office Secret Santa Mishap

I had to pick a name out of a hat for our office's Secret Santa exchange this year. I got stuck with my boss, which made the whole thing awkward because she tends to be rather strict about personal boundaries. Still, I decided to get her something nice, a high-end notebook and pen set, and wrapped it up neatly. But in the rush of getting ready before the gift-exchange day, I accidentally switched my wrapping paper with another package meant for someone else's gift. So when I handed over what looked like an enormous bottle of wine wrapped in festive green paper to my boss during the party, everyone just stared at me silently until she thanked me awkwardly and tucked it away under her desk without opening it. It was mortifying, but all anyone could talk about for weeks afterward was that one big package among all the little ones.
