Why Did I Really Buy That?

I recently bought an expensive pair of shoes that I've been eyeing for years. Now, every time I wear them, I feel like people are staring and whispering about my extravagant choice. I know they're just a material thing, but there's something oddly comforting about owning these shoes. Am I just trying to make up for feeling old or outdated? Is it normal to spend money this way to keep myself feeling youthful? What do you think?
