I'm the New Kid in Town and I Made a Mistake

Hey everyone, so here's my story. A few weeks ago, I moved to a new city for work, I got this amazing job offer that was too good to pass up. It came with a big pay bump and a title promotion that meant the world to me after years of grinding away at my old place. But, uh... turns out moving here wasn't just about the job change; it was also about making new friends in a brand-new environment. So I started reaching out to people online, on forums, local Facebook groups, and even Reddit threads where folks were sharing their experiences of being newbies like me. The first few interactions were great! People offered advice on neighborhoods, gave tips on places to eat (I had some amazing tacos at this place that's been a lifesaver), and shared stories about what it was like in the city. But then I got carried away a bit. You see, one day I decided to throw together an invitation for a meet-up with other new residents. My intent was noble, a chance to meet people face-to-face, build some connections before getting too far into the city life alone. But my execution? Maybe not so much. I sent out this grandiose email that sounded more like I was organizing a TED talk than just trying to get together for coffee or drinks. It ended up sounding demanding and exclusive rather than welcoming. People stopped responding, some even unfriended me on social media. Now, when I try to engage in conversations online, folks give me these sideways looks as if they're not sure whether they should trust what I'm saying. So here's my question: How do you handle making mistakes like this while still trying to establish yourself and connect with people? It feels so tough being the new person who also messed up pretty badly in their first big attempt at community-building. Any advice or experiences that might help me figure out how to start fresh again?
