My Dad's Secret Snack Stash Is Mine Now

Alright, so here’s the backstory. My name is Alex, I’m a freelancer and work from home, which means my house is basically my office these days. I have this really quirky dad who still lives with me after my mom passed away last year. He's funny but also kind of annoying sometimes because he has these ridiculous routines and superstitions that get under my skin. Like how he thinks wearing a green hat will make him win at the casino (he doesn’t, by the way). But I love him to bits despite his quirks. Anyway, long story short, Dad is obsessed with snacks. He’s got this secret stash hidden somewhere in the house where he keeps all sorts of junk food. You know, cookies, chips, candy bars, the works. I’ve known about it for a while but never really did anything about it until recently. So last week, on one of those days when work isn’t going well and you just need something to pick yourself up, I found out where his stash is hidden. It’s in an old trunk under his bed, behind some clothes he hasn't worn since my mom was alive (which makes me feel a little better about digging through it). I felt kind of guilty taking some at first but then thought, why not? He won’t even notice they’re gone! And oh boy, did I enjoy myself. I’ve been sneaking snacks whenever work feels too heavy or when I need a quick energy boost. It’s like my own little rebellion against Dad and his snack hoarding ways. Plus, it makes me feel rebellious in a harmless way since he has no idea. I know this probably isn’t the best thing to be doing (and yes, technically it's stealing), but hey, what can I say? Sometimes you just need that extra piece of chocolate when stress is high and inspiration is low. And besides, work-from-home life needs its perks too, right? Anyway, this confession feels pretty cathartic for me, writing all this out helps a lot. If anyone reads this and thinks ‘oh no, don’t encourage theft,’ just know that I’m more or less kidding around with it all. But it’s still fun to think about. Maybe one day I’ll confess everything to Dad over some popcorn and we’ll laugh about it together. For now though? The stash is mine.
