My Boss's Coffee Is Suddenly Tons Better Than Mine

So this week at work has been pretty mundane, you know how it is. Monday through Thursday I'm basically doing the same tasks, checking off my to-do list like a robot. But on Friday mornings, we have our coffee order at 9 AM sharp and it's always a good way to end the workweek with some caffeine buzz before lunchtime meetings. My favorite place for coffee is right next door, and every morning I pick up two large lattes: one for me and one for my boss since he always forgets his own order in the chaos of emails and meetings first thing in the morning. Now, Friday was supposed to be just like any other day. But as I grabbed the drinks at 9 AM sharp, I noticed there wasn't a single vanilla syrup left on the counter. Oh no! My boss is super picky about his lattes and always gets them with a hefty dose of vanilla, more than what's considered normal even for coffee lovers like us. In my stress to get everything else done before lunchtime, I panicked at this momentary lack of options and decided not to tell him the syrup shortage. So instead of telling the barista to wait, I grabbed the last regular latte off the counter, hoping he wouldn't notice. It's been two days now and everyone in the office is noticing how my boss seems more cheerful than usual. They all say his coffee must be hitting just right for him because he's been cracking jokes left and right at meetings that never used to happen. And every time I hear someone praising the quality of his latte, I feel a twinge of guilt and wonder what would have happened if I'd told him about the vanilla syrup situation. Was it really too much to ask? Maybe next week I'll just go ahead and get the extra shot for both our coffees instead of risking a major office gossip scandal over a little caffeine crisis. But right now, I'm stuck here feeling like an amateur sleuth solving a mystery that shouldn't have been one in the first place. Is there something wrong with me for not handling this better? Or is it just all in my head?
