Classroom Chaos

Today's math lesson was supposed to go smoothly, but everything fell apart after I mentioned fractions. One student asked a question about equivalent fractions and before I knew it, we were off on a tangent about Egyptian numerals and how they used different symbols for each power of ten. It didn't help that my phone started buzzing with messages from colleagues, reminding me about the staff meeting later this afternoon. Now the class is in complete chaos, students are whispering to one another, passing notes under their desks. I tried playing a quick game to review fractions but ended up confusing everyone even more. Honestly, it's moments like these when I question if teaching is really for me.
