When I Was Too Lazy To Walk Home And Got Into Trouble

Anonymous Chatty Gossip #815 · General

So there I was, lying in my dorm room bed one Friday night after an exhausting day of studying for that pesky calc exam. My brain felt like mush and all I wanted to do was veg out with some Netflix and pizza. But then I remembered, my mom had packed me a big bag of snacks and fresh laundry for Sunday morning, and the only way to get it home was by schlepping through the cold November night on foot. Bleh. I stared at my phone, trying to come up with an excuse not to face that long walk home. I mean, seriously, 12 blocks in the dark? But then a thought struck me, Uber! Why hadn’t I thought of this earlier?! So I opened the app and tapped away, inputting my address and mom’s house. A few minutes later, a cute guy picks me up (let's just call him Ben), and we set off. During the ride, I noticed Ben looked kind of stressed out but also super nice. Turns out he had an early shift at work tomorrow and was rushing to get home to sleep. He seemed like such a go-getter! When we got there, I fumbled around in my bag for some cash but only found quarters. Oh no! “No worries,” Ben said with a smile and waved off the fare. Wait...did he just waive it?! This was such an awesome guy who didn’t even know me. But then guilt crept up on me, was this too much? I mean, I wasn’t stranded or anything; just being lazy! So the next day, as a thank you, I baked Ben some cookies and left them at his front door with a quick note. He texted back saying how thoughtful that was of me. But here’s where it gets weird, since then, my roommates always rib me about “the Uber Guy” who saved the day when I didn’t want to walk home in the dark. And now, every time someone talks about getting a ride late at night and needing help, they throw out something like ‘Why don’t you call Uber Guy?’ Oh well, guess I’ll just have to keep it light and laugh along with them because who wouldn't want to save the day and be known as some kind of campus hero? 🌟
